Float above Italy's largest lake and marvel at the shimmering blue waters and majestic surrounding mountains!
Reopened in 2022 after a complete renovation, the Prada-Costabella cable car offers a unique journey to explore Monte Baldo. Once you’ve comfortably and effortlessly reached the top of the mountain, you’ll be greeted by a panoramic view of Lake Garda and the Alps so breathtaking it will leave you speechless.
The excursion begins in Prada, a lovely hamlet of San Zeno di Montagna. You can reach the base station both by car and public transport. Free parking is also available on site.
To reach the summit, you’ll take two different rides. First, you’ll reach Ortigaretta (1.550 m above sea level) from Prada (1.000 m above sea level) in about 20 minutes on an open-air bucket-like lift that can accommodate two people at a time (“cestovia” in Italian). Once here, you can take a break at the restaurant of the Mondini-Baito Turri mountain hut and enjoy its stunning lake view or catch the two-seater chairlift up to the top (1.850 m above sea level). This second ride will take about 10 minutes. The cable car covers a total distance of around 3 kilometres.
What awaits you on Monte Baldo?
• Hiking adventures for everybody: explore the unspoilt nature of Monte Baldo with numerous waymarked hiking trails and enjoy stunning views of Lake Garda. From leisurely walks for the whole family to challenging tours for experienced hikers and Nordic walking – everyone’s needs are well catered for here.
• Mountain huts: stop off at one of the typical mountain huts along the way and treat yourself to well-deserved regional specialties such as Trento-style dumplings, charcuterie and cheese boards, or polenta with different side dishes. Not only will you delight your palate, but you'll also recharge for the next leg of your hike.
• Flora and fauna: Monte Baldo is a true paradise for nature lovers. Admire colourful alpine flowers, catch sight of marmots, chamois, and various bird species, or simply savour the pure mountain air.
• Clear starry nights: if you choose to spend the night in one of the huts, you’ll be able to admire the night lights on the lake from above and countless twinkling stars in the sky. Remember to bring a torch to find your way back to the hut safely after sunset.
We recommend visiting Monte Baldo in comfortable hiking boots and dressing appropriately for the weather. Depending on the season, be sure to bring a windbreaker and sun protection as well.
The Prada-Costabella cable car is subject to a charge and open from spring to autumn from morning to afternoon. Current prices, reductions, and opening times are listed on the official website. Dogs are allowed on the cable car but are required to wear a muzzle (available at the ticket office). Unfortunately, bicycles are not permitted.
The Prada-Costabella cable car is more than just a means of transport. It offers you an unforgettable experience with breathtaking views of Lake Garda and the impressive scenery of Monte Baldo. Whether you use it as the start of an exciting hike or simply to take in the spectacular views, it’s a journey you won’t forget.
