From Bardolino to Garda: a beautiful lakeside walk

A simple yet mesmerizing stroll on Lake Garda, where beauty meets sweet surprises

If there’s one experience that truly captures the serenity of Lake Garda, it’s the lakeside walk between the charming towns of Bardolino and Garda. A gentle path open to everyone, yet rich with breathtaking views.

But if you follow our steps, you’ll discover little secrets that make this journey even more special.

On the way to Garda: water on your left, nature on your right

Our journey begins with a gentle wander through the historic center of Bardolino. Leaving the small port behind, we step onto the lakeside promenade. Calm and crystal water stretching out to our left, the vibrant colors of trees framing our path on the right, and above us, a flawless blue sky.

Just a few steps in, moving from one colorful flowerbed to the next, a graceful white frame rises into the air: Bardolino’s Ferris wheel. We wondered how breathtaking the view must be from up there but decided to save that little adventure for another day.

Pause here and there, no need to hurry. We let the calm of a pebbled beach wash over us, watch the movement of the water, and hear the gentle breeze whispering throughout the trees. Along the way, plenty of kiosks with lakeside tables invite you to stop and refresh yourself.

The path is flat and inviting, allowing you to enjoy every step. In the distance, glimpses of “la Rocca” begin to appear between the tall trees: a striking peak that signals the nearness of Garda.
Lake Garda has many beautiful beaches. From Bardolino to Garda, they are left completely natural, some are pebbled, some are grassy. Only one is made of sand! As we get closer to “la Rocca”, we came across the private beach of Hotel Sportsman. A little slice of sandy paradise that, even admired from the outside, stirs the dream of diving into the lake and unwinding on its sunbeds.

And the way back: from Garda to Bardolino (+ hidden gem alert!)

Almost without noticing, our destination is here: Garda! Once a key hub for navigation on Lake Garda, today it’s the perfect spot to soak in a dreamy view of Punta San Vigilio, the tiny peninsula stretching from the western shore. And if you’re lucky, just as we were, you might even catch a glimpse of the elegant sailing ship San Nicolò gliding across the waters. Isn’t it pretty?

The lakeside restaurants and bars in Garda tempted us to linger and savor the dolce vita, but we wanted to save the best for last.

After a leisurely wander through the town center, we began our journey back toward Bardolino. We retrace the same lakeside route, but there’s a very small detour that offers a different perspective.

Instead of sticking to the promenade, just before reaching Bardolino we slipped into Parco Carrara Bottagisio, following a hidden narrow path through the greenery (45°33'00.9"N 10°43'01.3"E).
It’s a short but charming cut! one that pulls you away from the summer bustle and lets you feel, for a moment, like a local. In just a few steps, the trail rejoins the main promenade, guiding you toward Bardolino’s little port, where the final chapter of this lakeside walk comes to a close.

A perfect ending: aperitivo in Bardolino

After the walk, what could be better than an aperitivo?

Bardolino’s lively center welcomes you with countless bars and a cheerful atmosphere. We found a small table tucked away in a quiet lane, ordered our favorite drinks (some bold, others light) and raised a glass to the beauty of the day. The perfect way to end the walk: a cool sip, a spark of joy, and the simple pleasure of well-earned relaxation.

The little treasures of Borgo Garibaldi (Pro tip!)

As you wander through the heart of Bardolino, don’t forget to look down while walking along Via Garibaldi. You’ll spot delightful hand-painted ceramic tiles: small surprises that make the street even more enchanting.

From Italy’s World Cup victory to beloved cartoon characters, each tile was crafted to celebrate a special moment or to brighten the doorway of a shop. With every step, a new story comes to life beneath your feet.
